About Sara

Sara has been making harmonious little worlds in shrines and shadowboxes for almost two decades.

Each box begins with either a provocative quote, a found snippet of text, or a particularly intriguing object. From this jumping-off point, Sara explores and elaborates layers of meaning through careful manipulation and arrangement of recycled objects, ephemera, paints and papers.

No two boxes are remotely the same, though each piece seeks to suggest a mysterious narrative or evoke a poetic experience for the viewer, often expressing themes of identity, nurturance, freedom, and creativity

Sara’s assemblage art is inspired by the Mexican folk art retablos she fell in love with as a kid growing up in New Mexico, by contemporary collage and assemblage art from around the world, and by the mysterious connections of her own peculiar mind.

Sara lives and works on Whidbey Island in Washington State. In addition to her art-making, she is also a creativity coach who helps clients honor and express their full constellation of creativities. Learn more about her coaching at www.sarasaltee.com.
