“I decided to start anew-to strip away what I had been taught, to accept as true my own thinking. This was one of the best times of my life.”

About the Piece: This piece has a very New Mexico vibe, from the color palette to the arial desert maps on the front, to the art car, to the Georgia O’Keefe quote. The art car mounted on top is one of my very favorite elements in any assemblage ever - it was sheer tedious bliss to glue all those little bitty elements onto a wooden car that my daughter had covered in paint years ago when she was just a wee girl.

For me, this piece is about claiming a new life organized around what you love, what brings you pleasure and delight, what you really know and think for yourself. It is about setting out on new adventures, guided by the angels of your own inner nature, and being unafraid to gobble up the goodness you find along the way.

Materials: found wooden box; wooden toy car covered in teeny ephemera; vintage bisque doll; small plexiglass hands; arial maps; art papers; upcycled plastic flower door handle; woven basket with assorted embellished felt balls and beads; stamp handle with lips motif; buddha figure; plastic raspberry; candy tin; small mirror; reclaimed butterfly earring; tin plate with lettering added; wooden beads and faux grasses; puffy paints; stamped words
